Toronto's Cathy Thorne - Creating cartoons about women, and the people who love and annoy them.

“Why do people laugh at Thorne's cartoons?  They recognize how ridiculous they’re being.”- Readers Digest, Five Canadian Cartoonists to Watch, August 2010

Everyday People Cartoons have widespread appeal, because they touch on universal truths about women (and the people who love and annoy them). Cathy Thorne pokes fun at our idiosyncrasies, inconsistencies and foibles with a clear but compassionate eye.  Her cartoons reflect her philosophy that people ultimately get it together . . . enough, anyway.

Cathy Thorne is a 43-year-old woman who completely rerouted her life 11 years ago.  She was waiting tables and longing for the creativity she’d left behind with childhood, when she discovered The Art Centre, a free city-run art school in Toronto.  It seemed like Utopia until she found herself paralyzed in front of an easel, trying to tune out the instructor’s warning that the likelihood of succeeding in the arts was close to nil. Two short months before graduating, lying in bed worrying about her future, it came to her. She began to sketch figures that looked like the drawings she had made as a child.  Below the illustrations, she made candid observations, and Everyday People Cartoons starting pouring forth effortlessly.

Everyday People Cartoons are available through reprint licensing, custom commissions and weekly service.  They have been featured in newspapers worldwide, and make the ideal companion for online or print articles, newsletters, books, corporate presentations or community outreach initiatives.  Her first collection was published in 2009 and is sold through retailers and online at www.everydaypeoplecartoons.com.

"With her honest wit and frank observations, the local artist refuels by creating sparse line cartoon drawings for which she jots down sassy blurbs inspired by everything from friendships and motherhood to health, beauty and romantic conundrums." - 24 Hours, Dec 16, 2006
